  2. Purpose • To enlighten TSMs on the Forever GI Bill • To brief TSMs of the Federal Student Aid Program, and other financial programs available for post-secondary education • To inform TSMs of other education options available to them during their transition

  3. Forever GI Bill • Assistance for students affected by school closures and certain program disapprovals • Elimination of 15-year time limit to use the pot 9/11 GI Bill • Priority enrollment • GI Bill monthly housing allowance • Changes to transfer of benefit (TEB) • Monthly housing allowance during active duty service • Yellow ribbon extension to active duty service members • https://benefits.va.gov/gibill/

Federal Student Aid Program • Is authorized under the Higher Education Act (created in 1965) • Includes grants, loans, and work-study programs • Supports post-secondary education by providing money for college to eligible students and families • Provides information on the process of obtaining financial aid and financial aid applications (including rules and regulations) • Factors that determine eligibility include: financial need, citizenship, degree or certificate eligible program • https://youtu.be/Pn4OECMTh5w

Summary • GI Bill education benefits • Federal Student Aid offers a variety of benefits and services that provide financial and other forms of assistance to Service members, veterans, as well as their dependents and survivors • Navy College and the SVA organization can help with educational benefits and training information
