Salvation Unpuzzled

I Corinthians 14:33

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

If you are looking for salvation in the Bible, would you rather looking for it by way of a 10 piece jigsaw puzzle or find it by way of a 32,00 jigsaw puzzle?

I Corinthians 14:33

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

  • I Corinthians 4:17

For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.

So do you see three or do you see four?
  • How many of us here see three?
  • How many of us here see four?
  • What is your perspective?
  • What if there was another option?
  • What if you were lead to believe there are only two options?
  • How you view information, plays a large role in what you believe and how deeply.

If we all worship the same God and use the same Bible, why do we have so many

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

It is estimated that there are more than 8,000 different churches in existence not counting the various different branches within each one.

That literally means we have 8,000 different churches claiming to the the one that Jesus died for.

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

John 15:1-4

If they all came from Jesus teaching different things and God is not the author of confusion, where is unity?

The Bible teaches there is only ONE church.

Through implication we find this to be true.

  • If A is > than B
  • If B is > than C

What unsaid but understood truth can we ascertain about A and C?

A _____ C

Ephesians 4:1-4

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4[There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.

Colossians 1:18

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence

IF THERE IS BUT ONE BODY AND THE BODY IS CALLED THE CHURCH,

HOW MANY CHURCHES IS CHRIST THE HEAD OF?

slide22
How do we then determine which church is the right church?

Any student of the Bible would do well to

follow the example of the Christians in

Berea.

Acts 17:11

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

slide23
The world’s perspective you are saved by grace alone.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:James 2:24:You see then that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.Look at the story of NOAH in Genesis 6.

slide24
Man’s Perspective

Sin is passed down, thus man is born in sin.

Romans 5:12-17

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

According to the Scripture the Jehovah Witness teach that sinned passed to all men because of Adam's’ sin.

When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, his sin separated him from God. Now all of his descendants inherited the curse of sin and death (Romans 5:12-17). As a result every human being is born a sinner, not because of any wrong they've done but because of Adam's decision. It is therefore necessary to become saved.

God’s Perspective

What does the verse actually say passed on to all mankind? Sin or death?

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Let’s go back to the beginning. Gen. 3:22-24

22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

How to be saved

The world at large teaches this

Just accept Jesus as your personal savior

and you will be saved.

They believe that one can be saved

before baptism.

They believe the baptism is symbolic of a

soul already saved.

You must repent

Confess the name of Jesus

B S B

In fact: Taken of a Baptist website

In his sermon at Pentecost, Peter urged those who had repented and believed in Christ to be baptized, not that baptism was necessary for salvation but as a testimony that they had been saved (Acts 2:1-41).

Thus, baptism is symbolic and not sacramental. Baptists believe that the Bible teaches that baptism symbolizes that a person has been saved and is not a means of salvation. Baptism is not a means of channeling saving grace but rather is a way of testifying that saving grace has been experienced. It does not wash away sin but symbolizes the forgiveness of sin through faith in Christ.

While baptism is not essential for salvation, it is a very important requirement for obedience to the Lord. Christ commanded his disciples to baptize (Matthew 28:19) and therefore baptism is a form of obedience to Jesus as Lord. Baptism is one way that a person declares, “Jesus is Lord.”

slide28
Mark 16:16

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

The conjunction and makes both equally necessary for the desired outcome.

Having only one will not work.

In this verse does salvation come before baptism or after?

B B S

Whoever cleans and cooks his chicken can eat it. But whoever does not clean his chicken will die.

Whoever uses water and soap will have clean clothes. But whoever uses water only will have dirty clothes.

The conjunction and makes both equally necessary for the desired outcome.

Having only one will not work.

slide29
What is the purpose of Baptism?

Acts 22:16

Acts 2:38

I Peter 3:21

16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

21The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

slide30
Question to you,

If baptism removes the sin away, how can one be saved before the sin is removed?

If you believe you are saved before baptism, you have been taught wrong.

YOU CANNOT BE TAUGHT WRONG AND SAVED RIGHT.

If you have believed wrong, you soul still stands in a state of being lost.
