  1. Salvation History • What are some defining moments in history? (USA, Browns, Indians, self, people of God) • Salvation History - The story of God reaching out and interacting with all of creation with love. • What are some of the events through which God has done this in history?

  2. Five main points: Creation, Israel, Jesus, Church, Eschaton • Public Revelation has ceased (Bible is complete) Private Revelation continues – God still speaks • Importance of Scripture & Tradition

  3. God reaches out to humanity What is a covenant?   How are a covenant & contract similar and different?

  4. Covenant – an agreement of everlasting relationship made between people • Main Covenants of the Old Testament • Promises made? Sign? Who is faithful? • Adam & Eve - Genesis 2:4-3:20 • Noah - Genesis 7:6-9:17 • Abraham - Genesis 12:1-7, 15, 17 • Moses - Exodus 19:1-8, 24:1-9, 32:1-14 • David - 2 Samuel 7, 11 • Conditional or unconditional?

  5. Homework Read articles 2 & 3 in the textbook (Pages 6-11 in the electronic text - landscape mode) Answer review questions 3-6 on page 13.

Contains truth about God and humanity Prefigure – events of the Old Testament foreshadow New Testament, and the New Testament fulfills events of the Old Testament Universal Blessing – God would come to bless all nations through Israel Promises are fulfilled, not voided, in Christ Why do we still use the Old Testament as Christians?

Reading  Ez 36:23-28 Thus says the LORD:I will prove the holiness of my great name,profaned among the nations,in whose midst you have profaned it.Thus the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD,when in their sight I prove my holiness through you.For I will take you away from among the nations,gather you from all the foreign lands,and bring you back to your own land.I will sprinkle clean water upon youto cleanse you from all your impurities,and from all your idols I will cleanse you.I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you,taking from your bodies your stony heartsand giving you natural hearts.I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes,careful to observe my decrees.You shall live in the land I gave your ancestors; you shall be my people, and I will be your God. How do you know God is Good? In what circumstance of my life do I need God to give me a new heart? Ask for it now.
