(MT) selected to augment DCX resources HUG-MI

  6. Selection Process - Essbase Data via the Web * Custom Application HTTP * Web Server Application Server API TCP/IP HUG-MI

  7. Hyperion Application Builder Selection Process - Web Tool Products Considered: Selection Criteria: • Alphablox Alphablox • Analyzer Hyperion • Applied OLAP Applied OLAP • Dynasight/Insight Arcplan • Executive Viewer Temtec • Hyperion Appl Builder Hyperion • JUNA Arch (Custom) DCX • Mocha Suite Painted Word • PowerPlay Cognos • R/W Spiderman Hyperion • . . . others • Essbase Feature Support • Full read/write/analyze • Platform fit with DCX • Open stds., true thin client • Development ease/tools • Formatting & navigation • Global support • Flexibility Decision: HUG-MI

  8. Selection Process - HAB Summary • Provides full functionality to access Essbase data over the web • Flexible • Can incorporate any business logic with Java code • Objects can be imbedded in other (non-Essbase) applications • Can use multiple data sources, including relational • Fit with DCX technical environment • Non-proprietary: Runs on DCX-standard web architecture • Netscape Webserver • IBM Websphere • J2EE compliant Java code • True thin client possible • Open source • All source code provided, can be modified • Successfully piloted in DCX (Auburn Hills) HUG-MI

  9. Solution Overview • Hyperion Essbase application with Hyperion Application Builder user-interface for reporting • Application Implementation Highlights • MT developed a new Hyperion Essbase application based on design template provided by DCX • MT developed a Hyperion Application Builder interface/report based upon user requirements and MT implementation methodology • DCX completed changes to existing applications • DCX performed integration testing • Application Functionality Highlights • G&A expense tracking for the headquarters expenses incurred at Auburn Hills • Highly interactive reporting, dynamically based on Essbase dimension structures • Simple, user-friendly environment tailored to non-Essbase-trained users HUG-MI

  10. Solution Overview - G&A HQ Reporting Data Flow HUG-MI

  11. Solution Overview - G&A HQ Application Architecture Interface : Internet Browsers Explorer 5.5, standard Auburn Hills desktop, no client applets, true thin client Web Server: Netscape Web Enterprise Server 3.6 Server Application Server: IBM Websphere 3.5.3 EJB’s Application Language: Repository Servlets ADM Java (JSP) JDBC JSP’s OLAP Data Services: J2EE App Server Hyperion Application Builder ADM 2.0 Relational Data Services : JDBC 2.0 HAB provides full read and write access to Essbase Operating System: Sun OLAP data from the web. Solaris 2.6/2.8 RDBMS Essbase Hardware : Fujitsu Prime Relational Data Source: OLAP Data Source: Power 400, 4x500Mhz IBM Universal Data Base Hyperion Essbase OLAP CPU, 8 GB RAM (UDB) 7.2 Server 5.0 / 6.1 HUG-MI

  12. Application Demonstration HUG-MI

  13. Results • Accomplishments: • Delivered application on-time, within budget • All expected functionality delivered • HAB performed as expected / desired • Challenges • New version of HAB – product installation issues • Licensing / Legal issues • Performance was initially an issue – addressed with upgraded hardware (i.e. – more memory) HUG-MI

  14. Results - Benefits of using HAB for HQ G&A • Simplified business process • Less manual handling of data • Simplified technical architecture • Direct, real time access to Essbase database • No longer moving data to mainframe for reporting • Lower maintenance requirements • Reduced support staff cost due to flexibility, simpler architecture • Web based solution, uses standard DCX architecture • Low risk of obsolescence • No software downloaded to client • Any standard browser can access • No delays for download, desktop configuration, software load HUG-MI

  15. Follow Up • HQ G&A was global pilot project for HAB at DCX • Result of pilot: HAB has been approved as an IT Global Standard at DCX • Knowledge sharing with other DCX organizations • Reviewing HAB v2.5 as possible tool for creation of a generic web-interface for all DCX – Global Finance Essbase applications • Write-back capability developed – pending customer approval for deployment HUG-MI
