  1. Bellringers Intro to Chemistry Matters Unit

  2. Bellringer • I have 2.5 gallons of milk, how many cupcakes can I make for my daughter’s birthday party? (1 batch of cupcakes needs 1.5 cups of milk, 1 gallon = 16 cups) • G • U • E • S • S

  3. Drew Brees has thrown for 37,743 yds in the NFL. How many miles has he thrown the ball? • 5280 ft = 1 mile 3 ft = 1 yard • G • U • E • S • S

  4. Find the volume if a 45 g mass has a density of 94 g/cm3 • G • U • E • S • S

  5. Phase change diagram What was measured? What is the independent variable What type of relationship is represented in this graph Day 1

  6. How many mL are in 5 gallons? • (1 gal = 3.79 Liters) • If you have only a 5 gallon jug and a 3 gallon jug, how can you measure out 4 gallons? (there are no measuring marks on the jugs)

  7. Label the graph, then explain what is happening using kinetic molecular theory Day 1

  8. At what temperature would you find the melting point? Day 1

  9. At what temperature range wouldyou find a solid? Day 1

  10. At what temperature range wouldyou find a gas? Day 1

  11. At what temperature range wouldyou find a liquid? Day 1

  12. A light bulb has a power of 1.25 kilowatts. What is the power in milliwatts? Label each picture as chemical or physical change

  13. Charles’s Law Question. Q: The temperature inside my refrigerator is about 40 Celsius. If I place a balloon in my fridge that initially has a temperature of 220 C and a volume of 0.5 liters, what will be the volume of the balloon when it is fully cooled by my refrigerator? A: G: U: E:

  14. Boyle’s Law • A balloon is filled with 2.0L of air and a pressure of 101 kPa. The balloon is then taken to Mars were the pressure is 0.6 kPa. Use Boyle’s Law to determine the new volume of the balloon. • G • U • E • S • S

  15. Charle’s Law • When a gas occupies a volume of 750 cm3 at 10oC, at what temperature will it occupy 900cm3? • G • U • E • S • S

  16. We are struggling in class. • Why? • We are trying to meet all your needs individually • As we come to each of you • Some have chosen to try the problem (This is Excellent!) • This allows us to help identify errors and we can quickly work with you correcting the mistakes.

  17. New Ground Rules • Why? • We are trying to meet all your needs individually • Some of you will not attempt the problem without us standing there (This is notgood!) • We need your help to allow us to help you. • Stay in your seat at all times unless you are told to move. • Attempt every problem when given time to do so. This will allow us to help you improve. You are not penalized for getting a practice problem incorrect, but you are on a test our quiz • This will save us time to help other as well as getting to you quicker. Rule: As all of us walk around the room, we are going to check problems. If you are not working on the assigned problem we will make a mark on the roster. Three marks results in spending time with us after school.

  18. New Ground Rules • Why? • We are trying to meet all your needs individually • Some of you will not attempt the problem without us standing there (This is notgood!) • We will also reward small points for in class effort in your homework grade for completing the problems independently in class. • Off topic conversations will require additional deduction in points. • This participation points are included for… • Labs • Assigned problems • Homework • Bellringers
