  1. Visit our WEBSITE: www.portlandlittleaths.com.au Centre Newsletter Welcome Back… We hope you all had an enjoyable break and are all refreshed to enjoy the remainder of the Little Aths season... • Upgraded Jumping Pit. • Exciting times…we have upgraded the sandpit for the jumps area with beautiful new beach sand and we do not want any sticks, gum nuts etc put in the pit at all. To ensure that it is kept pristine we have purchased a custom built cover for the pit. We would ask for parents help to ensure that no children stand on the cover at all during competition, and that the cover goes back on at the end of the sessions. This should be a huge improvement in the pit area. • A big thank you to Garry Clarke who donated a large portion of the shade cloth for the construction of the cover. • Also to the Glenelg Shire Council for removing the sand from the pit, that saved a lot of men, a lot of work! • A big thank you to our canteen ladies and all of our parents who support the canteen, this is how we make our money to make improvements in the Centre! Set Up – A Plea for Help As you would all be aware, the set up of all the equipment takes a considerable period of time each week and we need more HELP please. Due to the tricky nature of the gates, committee people will continue to set these up. We really need parental help taking all the equipment out to the events, taking the cover off the pits, turning over and raking the sandpit area, setting up the hurdles, and getting out the high jump equipment. When the load falls to a few people every week it takes a lot of time, and we will burn out our volunteers! So please don’t sit in your cars, don’t arrive late, please just come and get involved. For the remainder of the season we will commence set up at 4.30pm and we will not start until we get help and these jobs are done. So please, many hands make light work, we can’t help your children and set everything up as well! Newsletter 6 - Season 2012/2013 Page: 1 of 4

  2. Visit our WEBSITE: www.portlandlittleaths.com.au Centre Newsletter Regional Track and Field Championships We have a total of 36 athletes from the Portland Centre attending the Regional Track and Field Championships in Warrnambool on 23rd and 24th February, which is an outstanding effort. Our Under 6-8, and U16 athletes will only be able to compete in Warrnambool, U9-U15 can go on to represent the Centre in Bendigo on the 23rd and 24th March. This is a fantastic day, there are medals presented in each event, as well as competitor ribbons. Con Driscoll and Michelle Simons will be Team Managers on the day and ensure that the athletes get to where they need to be. It is a fantastic weekend and we would love to see as many athletes there as possible. If you have any questions give Michelle a call on 0407 227 463. Presentation Night Change Just a note to let everyone know that the Presentation Night for Little Aths will now be on Tuesday 26th March due to the early Easter this year. So put that one in your calendar. The centre provides all the meat and this year we will be asking parents of girls to bring a salad, and parents of boys to bring a dessert to share. You are welcome to bring along family members to share this night, it is always fantastic and will be held up at Nelson Park, commencing at 5pm. Please be aware that in order to be in the running for Centre Awards, athletes must compete in at least 70% of all competition nights since they joined for the season. Points System Just a refresher that awards are based on a system of 1 point for competing and 4 additional points for every PB that is achieved, (equal PB’s do not get any improvement awards). All our Under 6 athletes get a participation award at the end of the season. As it is half way through the season, we are publishing the standings as they are now: the track is a bit drier, the pits are improved and we are ready for some PB’s in this part of the season! These standings do not include points for competing, so make sure that you have a go each week, Little Aths is all about family, fun and fitness. Newsletter 6 - Season 2012/2013 Page: 2 of 4
