    16. Phase 1: Came together in 1999 as an informal group (at Jerry Colangelo’s invitation) to collectively understand the issues and develop common goals/work plans. Many focused on government policies. Phase 2: Hired staff in 2002 to begin outreach to an untapped sector – the faith community. Mobilize for President Bush’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative - Rallying the Armies of Compassion Purpose: strengthen capacity of faith community to respond To date, have assisted 80 groups. Phase 3: Shift toward “what works” & not reinventing the wheel Business community – Arizona LeaderForce About the Collaboration Only a fraction of existing organizations currently have the resources and expertise to increase involvement. Therefore… FBOs will need significant technical assistance. Unrealistic to expect that everyone can have the capacity necessary to do the job. The alternative for technical assistance: Identify those doing good work and promote it within the community. Interested FBOs may increase their effectiveness by partnering with existing CDCs or private industry. When they collaborate, good things happen” - AZ Republic, May ‘05 We need leaders to set up: “What's missing are enough leader companies….We have leader CEOs. They're living part of the year in north Scottsdale and sending their money and passion back home.” – Jon Talton, AZ Republic, April ’05 We should unlock the resources in our community: “There remains too much poverty and despair amidst abundance. Government can rally a military, but it cannot put hope in our hearts or a sense of purpose in our lives…. (We must) take bold steps to rally America’s armies of compassion.” - President Bush

    26. 2009 Lessons Learned Playbook More complete descriptions on roles/responsibilities & project plan Agencies Perform a readiness assessment, SWOT analysis, orientation Assemble a list of possible projects to present early Coaches Orientation - Talk through roles/responsibilities & commitment Allow Coaches to pick agency assignments later after hearing about the agency, their needs and possible projects Team Development First sessions on getting to know participants & team development De-emphasize projects initially Team Leadership Champions will lead teams and guide process (will train them)
