Telling Time in Spanish . To ask what time is it, you say:. ¿Qué hora es?. If the time is BIGGER than ONE (2, 3, 4…10, 11), you use:. Son las and then the time. 9 AM- Son las nueve 11 PM- Son las once. If the time is ONE (1) then you say:. Es la una and then the minutes.

  2. To ask what time is it, you say: • ¿Qué hora es?

  3. If the time is BIGGER than ONE (2, 3, 4…10, 11), you use: • Son las and then the time. • 9 AM- Son las nueve • 11 PM- Son las once

  4. If the time is ONE (1) then you say: • Es la una and then the minutes. • 1:00- Es la una. • 1:10- Es la una y diez.

  5. Instead of AM and PM you say: • De la mañana (before noon) • De la tarde (noon until 6 PM) • De la noche (after 6 PM)

  6. :00, :15, :30 and :45 minutes….. • :00 en punto • :15 y cuarto • :30 y media • :45 menoscuarto

  7. What about if it is not exactly 15 after? • The : in Spanish is y • 8:20 would be- Son las ocho y veinte. • 10:13 would be- Son las diez y trece.

  13. 2:14 PM • Son las dos y catorce de la tarde.

  14. What happens when the minute hand is past 30 minutes? • You round UP the HOUR and SUBTRACT the remaining minutes!

  15. Here are some examples: • 3:40 PM- Son las cuatro menos veinte de la tarde. • 5:55 PM- Son las seis menos cinco de la tarde.
