  1. Year 1 Parent Evening Hello Buna AloCiao Bonjour

  2. Welcome! • Elm Class is taught by Mrs Wintrip and Mrs Holmes with the support of Miss Guildford.

  3. Housekeeping Matters • The children all need a named water bottle. • Milk can be ordered • Snacks

  4. Uniform • All uniform must be named. • Children are now expected to wear a tie and shirt or blouse. • A sweatshirt and joggers are needed for PE.

  5. English • Daily phonics will continue. • Children need a text rich environment at home as well as school.

  6. Reading • Guided reading session will happen at at least once a week. • Individual readers can be changed several times a week. You need to sign their reading diary to say they have read the book before they can have another book. • Sharing books is important.

  7. Mathematics • Children are taught in small groups. • Counting, using money and measuring and problem solving are key elements. • Showing children that numeracy is part of everyday life is important.

  8. Topic Work and the Outdoors A wide variety of our work is covered through a topic based approach and this half term’s topic is Ourselves.

  9. The Prayer Book, Magnus Monkeyand Wow notes Wownotes tell us about the amazing things that your child does out of school. Magnus Monkey and the Prayer Book go home every day with a child from Elm Class.

  10. How you can help • Listen to your children. Let them explore ideas and thoughts with you. • Encourage good listening and following of instructions. • Hear them read daily if possible. • Give them opportunities to use mathematical concepts in the home. Weighing ingredients and cooking is a fun activity. • Help them learn their times 2s, 5s and 10 times tables. • Come and help us on trip or outing. You need to be DBS checked, and forms can be obtained from the office.
