Space Logistics Definition • Definition • Space logistics is the theory and practice of driving space system design for operability, and of managing the flow of materiel, services, and information needed throughout a space system lifecycle. Mission and Goals of the Space Logistics TC • Supply long-range vision for key space logistics topics • Space supply chain management • Move from mission-focus to long-term campaign focus • Support emerging commercial industry for space cargo/crew transport • Space infrastructure development (on the ground and in space) • Lean principles, In-space construction, repair and maintenance • Importance of logistics during entire lifecycle, including design • ISS Sustainment post-Shuttle retirement • Provide central node in network for information on space logistics • via website and newsletter, Aerospace America year-end review, journal articles, book, via committee meetings and conference sessions • Generate reports and standards for use by workers in space logistics • Provide recognition for committee members and other workers in field • via publications, via AIAA awards

SLTC Highlights for 2009 • Conferences and Workshops • Visit and Business Meeting at NASA KSC in January 2009 • Supported 15th Space and Launch Ops Workshop, Hawaii, April 2009 with SOSTC • Space Logistics Track at Space 2009 (6+1 sessions), robust attendance • Publications / Technical Products • Several journal articles published in JSR • Released SpaceNet 2.5 to the public on October 1, 2009 (http://spacenet.mit.edu) • Two AIAA/ANSI Standards in development and ready to review • Space Logistics Lexicon, Space Cargo Classification (COS) • AIAA Progress Series Book under contract and in development • 28 chapters planned, 60% received, still open for submissions • Awards • New Space Logistics best paper award approved ($500 from SMG) • Membership • 9 New Nominations received will be at full strength 34 (2008: 19, 2009: 25) • Adopted new TC Charter

Plans for 2010 • 48th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting (ASM) January 3-7, 2010 • 11th International Conference on Space Operations (SpaceOps 2010) • 25-30 April 2010, Huntsville AL, (abstract deadline was 1 Aug 2009) • Tour of NASA Marshall and Army Facilities • AIAA Space 2010 Conference and Exposition, AIAA ICSSC 2010 • 29 August - 1 Sept 2010, Anaheim – sponsoring Space Logistics Track • Transition to new SLTC chair in September 2010, following online election. New Chair: Alan Johnson (AFIT), Vice Chair: Pete Paceley (Draper), Secr.: Sarah Shull (NASA) • Completion of Technical Products (Book, Standards …) • E-education Initiative: • Develop online game and competition for space logistics • Submitted TC proposal to NASA Solicitation NNG09AZ32R: Design and Usage of Massively Multiplayer Online Games and Persistent Immersive Synthetic Environments • Live video-feed session for young members at Space 2010 • Monthly brown-bag lunch presentations about Space Logistics/Ops (e.g. LCROSS) • Further improve TC Operations and intensity • Will solicit nominations for Chair-Elect via email and conduct online vote • Together with voting on TC charter • Other meetings visits? • Which of these will be our next TC meetings?
