Facts • Fact: Approximately 12 million tons of clothing waste is produced each year in North America. • That equals out to be about 68 pounds per household. • Textile Recycling Industry was one of the first recycling industries to be formed. • Over 90% of textile waste could be recycled.
Why is it important? • Landfills will stay nicer-fabric can take up to 100 years to decompose in landfills. • Better for waterways- t-shirts that contain cotton pollute the water. (non-organic) • Better for ourselves- the dyes that are used in some clothing can be harmful to animals, the environment, and us. • Helps with pollution- nylons and polyester are made from chemicals that include refining crude oil which creates bad pollution.
Who can make a difference and how? • Anyone can make a difference. • Households can make the greatest of differences. • Garage sales and donating instead of throwing them away.
