Do Now: What items does an explorer need for their voyage? Take out your outlines. Make sure so far you have: turned in all outlines through hw#3, turned in your DBQ, taken the test & completed hw#4. NYSS: 2&3; CCLS: R 2-4 &10, W 4,9&10 . Know: reasons why Europeans wanted to explore Understand: the need for spices, the know how, items needed, skills for exploration Do: Students will work with their groups to create a portrait in words based on the European explorers.

  2. Aim: How did the European desire for spices change the world? I. EUROPEAN AGE OF EXPLORATION A. As Europe’s population recovered from the Black Death, the demand for trade goods grew. B. Europeans wanted spices. C. European merchants wanted to gain direct access to the riches of Asia. D. Some voyagers still wanted to crusade against the Muslims. E. Others were inspired by the Renaissance spirit to learn about distant lands.
