  3. Why football? • Realize great readers are great thinkers • Rethink their approach reading • Use something they love to motivate them to do something they hate If you can’t beat em’ join em’!

  4. What is a HUDDLE?

  5. Have a look around. Graphics: parts + action Parts: people, objects Who or what is the graphic mostly about? What is the main focus? Who or what is most important? Action: What’s happening? Is it showing character actions or feelings? Or does it show an event or facts/info? • Main Idea vs. details • Determine importance • Science STAAR Test

  6. Understand the title (s). Word meaning – Main Ideas Don’t just read it! Think about what the words mean and how they go together. The title is a clue!It helps you predict the Main Idea of the whole passage. Look for Text Structure Clues Subtitles, headings, bolded words show passage organization: Main idea/detail, sequence, cause/effect, compare/contrast

  10. End with purpose & prediction. Why did the author write it? What could it be about? Your prediction must match your chosen purpose.
