Journal requirement Reminder • Focus on key characters. • You don’t have to address all characters. • Focus on a key conflict. • Don’t just list an event or a relationship. • What is the conflict that caused the event or tension in the relationship? • Quotes • Blend quotes • explain how they prove your argument • 2 quotes for characters • 2 quotes for conflict • Cite with page number
Discussion questions • Page 201-202: Matt reflects: How has Matt changed from earlier in the book? How is this shown in this section? • Page 232-Why doesn’t El Patron ruin the brains of his clone? What do we learn about El Patron through this and about his clone? • Page 234-Eejits from North and South. What is the world of this story really like? What else does this show us about reality vs. appearance? • Page 246-What happens? How does this tie to the classic hero’s journey? • How does Matt’s path so far reflect the classic hero’s journey? What are some of his key challenges and trials? • Has he reached his “descent into darkness” (the facing of a physical or spiritual death)? How so or how not? • Has he gone through a transformation? If so, what is the transformation? If not, how is he not transformed?
