  1. Welcome to our Services Where our Members are Appreciated And Our Visitors Are Our Honored Guests

  2. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean?

  3. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • There are many confused people and many confusing teachings about the plan of salvation. • The “Plan of Salvation” is a simple plan if one will simply read and accept the ALL the scriptures that deal with the question – “What must I do to be saved?” • Peter gave a simple answer to that question or similar to it when the people asked in the book of Acts – the history of the beginning of the Church - The Saved that are in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:3- Galatians 3:27

  4. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • When they had heard the sermon of Peter and the rest of the Apostles on that day of Pentecost their response was: “37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?“ 38Then Peter said unto them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:37-38

  5. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • Peter didn’t tell the people of Pentecost to do anything any different than that which Christ told Peter and the rest of the Apostles to do, and subsequently to all disciples to tell those who are lost in sin when He gave the “Great Commission” before His departure from the earth and back to heaven. Note the following passages:

  6. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • 19Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,    20teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Amen. Matthew 28:19-20 • 15And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature.    16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:15-16

  7. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • Luke 24:45-4945Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures, • 46and said unto them, "Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, • 47and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. • 48And ye are witnesses of these things. • 49And behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you; but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high."

  8. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? 1. So he Opened their understanding of what they were to preach and teach. • It was “repentance and remission of sins” • He told them where to begin this message – Jerusalem. • He did not contridict or change what Matthew and Mark records of this same time period/event/place and or date. • Peter and the rest do exactly that on Pentecost – Pretty simple pretty simple and straight forward.

  9. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • So why would the meaning “Calling On the Name of The Lord” be anything any different? • Most everyone would agree that what is being “referenced” is the means/method/plan of salvation. The answer to - “What must I do to be saved from my sins and live eternally?” • God is not the “author of confusion” I Corinthians 14:33

  10. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • So what or where does all the confusion come from regarding this most important question of all time? • The answer is simple – mankind. • By twisting and perverting the scriptures – Paul warned of this happening within the Church in Galatians 1:7 “For this is not another; but there are some who trouble you and would pervert the Gospel of Christ.” • So we can certainly expect to see those types of folks doing the same thing outside of the Church.

  11. “Calling On the Name of The Lord”What Does This Mean? • The following is a “shot” of a very old “chart sermon” - put together many years ago before Film Strips, White Boards, Overhead Projector and even PowerPoint that did an exceptional job at answering our question and so we will recreate it in our study in order to come to a an answer and conclusion to our question – “Calling On the Name of The Lord” What Does This Mean?

  17. Calling on the Lord’s Name The Answer to all of these is NO!!!! ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 21And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.‘ Acts 2:21 13For "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.“ Romans 10:13 WHY? 21"Not every one that saithunto Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he that doeth the will of My Father who is in Heaven. MATTHEW 7:21

  18. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 LET’S COMPARE AND SEE IF THE SCRIPTURES AGREE WITH EACH OTHER!! Romans 10:13-17 SENT PREACHER Believed Heard CALL Saved Mark 16:15,16 GO PREACH (HEAR) Believeth Baptized BE SAVED Acts 2:37,38 (WENT) Rem. Of Sins Peter Said HEARD (Believed) REP. & BAP. Acts 22:12-16 CAME Ananias Said HEARD (Believed) Bap Called Wash a. Sins Preacher Goes MEN HEAR SAVED PREACH BELIEVE OBEY CALL

  19. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 It is the “teaching of God” that we are to hear to learn from even as the Son of God “learned” from His Father and “Obeyed Him”. And It is the Son that teaches us how to be saved, what it means to “Call on His Name”! 44No man can come to Me unless the Father who hath sent Me draw him; and I will raise him up at the Last Day. 45It is written in the Prophets: `And they shall all be taught by God.' Every man therefore that hath heard and hath learned from the Father cometh unto Me. John 6:44-45 ******************************************************* 8though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered. 9And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all those who obey Him, Hebrews 5:8-9

  20. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 TO “CALL” is nothing less than “Doing the Father’s Will” MATTHEW 7:21 21"Not every one that saith unto Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he that doeth the will of My Father who is in Heaven.”

  21. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 The Father’s Will On BAPTISM : LUKE 7:30 “30But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him. 15And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature.    16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. MARK 16:15-15 28Then said Jesus unto them, "When ye have lifted up the Son of Man, then shall ye know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father hath taught Me, I speak these things.JOHN 8:28

  22. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 The Father’s Will On BAPTISM : 49For I have not spoken of Myself; but the Father who sent Me, He gave Me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak.JOHN 12:49 Thereforewhat Jesus has spoken or taught regarding what it means to “CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD” is that which His Father has spoken. So God, the Father has said - “While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud, said, "THIS IS MY BELOVED SON IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED. HEAR YE HIM!” Matthew 17:5

  23. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 So to “CALL” is to “OBEY the GOSPEL” 13For "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.“     14How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?     15And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!“     16But they have not all obeyed the Gospel. For Isaiah saith, "Lord, who hath believed our report?“     17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. ROMANS 10:13-17

  24. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 Romans 6:17 17But God be thanked that though ye were the servants of sin, now ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. The Doctrine Christ Died Was Buried Raised I Corinthians 15:1-4 ROMANS 6:1-5 Form of Doctrine Man Dies to Sin Buried in Baptism Raised to New Life Romans 6:17-18 18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

  25. Calling on the Lord’s Name ACTS 2:21 - ROMANS 10:13 Now that you know what it means to “CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD” why not do so right now by responding to the invitation as we stand and Sing? Acts 22:16 16And now why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'
