  2. CHOOSE WHOM YOU WILL SERVE(Joshua 24:15) Satan God

  3. CHOOSE WHOM YOU WILL SERVE • Introduction: 1. While there are some situations or circumstances where we “may not” have a choice such as a “accident” or some “medical conditions” we still have “the right of choice” regarding how to handle or respond to the “after math” of those events. • Se we can say that in “most all situations” we have the “power of choice” – “to Choose”.

  4. CHOOSE WHOM YOU WILL SERVE The right or ability to choose is an attribute that God has given to mankind that we cherish. 2. This has its advantages as well as its disadvantages. a. My eternal destiny rests in my own hands and the choice is mine. b. However, I sometimes wish I could make that choice for others. 3. In this lesson we will examine three choices that were presented and three different responses. 4. As we examine these choices, attempt to identify who you are most like.

  5. I. A Choice Offered By Jeremiah • (Jeremiah 6:14-16). 14They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly,       Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’       When there is no peace. 15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination?       No! They were not at all ashamed;       Nor did they know how to blush.       Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;       At the time I punish them,       They shall be cast down,” says the LORD. 16 Thus says the LORD:       “ Stand in the ways and see,       And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,      And walk in it;       Then you will find rest for your souls.       But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ (NKJV)

  6. A Choice Offered By Jeremiah B. The people were guilty of many sins (Jeremiah 5). • 1. They swore falsely (v. 2). • 2. Idolatry (v. 7). • 3. Adultery (vs. 7-8). • 4. They lied about God (v. 12). • 5. They prophesied falsely (v. 31).

  7. A Choice Offered By Jeremiah • C. They were given the choice to walk in the ways of God and find rest for their souls or continue to suffer the consequences of their disobedience. • D. However, they said, “We will not walk therein.”

  8. II. A Choice Offered By Elijah A. (1 Kings 18:21-40). (Let’s read it together.) B. God’s people were wicked under the leadership of Ahab and Jezebel. C. When Ahab and Elijah met, there was a showdown. D. Elijah called for the people to make a decision and quite straddling the fence. Revelation 3:15 warns about “straddling the fence”, being “lukewarm” 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot,[g] I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

  9. A Choice Offered By Elijah E. Their response was delayed. 1. At first, they said nothing to him. 2. Only after the miraculous display did they rally around Elijah

  10. III. A Choice Offered By Joshua • (Joshua 24:14-25). Let’s Read B. Their response was immediate acceptance. 16. So the people answered and said: “Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods; 17 for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed. 18 And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the LORD, for He is our God.”

  11. A Choice Offered By Joshua C. However, Joshua reminds them of the commitment involved in their decision. Joshua 24:19-22 19But Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the LORD, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. 20. If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good.” 21 And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the LORD!” 22 So Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD for yourselves, to serve Him.” And they said, “We are witnesses!”

  12. Conclusion: • When it comes to making the “choice” regarding serving God or Satan - they refuse to choose God. Is that you? • Some hesitate to make the correct choice Time could run out if one hesitates too long. Will that happen to You? • And then others realize that the correct choice is to serve God. Will that Be You? • The eternal destiny of your soul rests entirely in your hands—its your choice. 5. All I can do is remind you of God’s love for you and encourage you to make the right choice, the rest is up to YOU!
