  2. Let’sstartwithReportedSpeech • Whenwe use reportedspeech, we are usuallytakingaboutthepast (becauseobviouslythepersonwhospoke originally spoke in the past). The verbs therefore usually have to be in past too. For example: • Sara: “I’mgoing to the cinema” • Sara said that she was going to the cinema.
