Control System Architecture • Based on EPICS using Two Layer Model • Primary interface to CS through VME IOCs • Use VME64x, IP carriers, IP Modules and transition board for rear connection • Hot Swap capability • Will use PLCs to manage interlocks for protection • Avoids Watch Dogs on IOCs and allow warm reboot of IOCs • AB Control Logix PLCs for low end applications, eg Vac Valve control • Siemens S7/300 and S7/400 for high end applications, eg Linac and Cryoplant • Serial Interface to Instrumentation • Potentially several thousand • Serial support through Stream Device and ORNL Serial Progress Report on the DIAMOND Light Source to the EPICS Meeting DLS June 03

Recent Developments • Standardised on SLS PSU controller for 1300 PSUs • Full digital regulation • CS Interface through high speed point to point link • Development of APS/SLS Event System with SLS and Micro Research • Move to 2.5Gbit transmission, reduce jitter, enable distribution of RF clock and recovery using VCO • Development of Application Development Environment • Define processes and sequences of building applications • Local development on Linux PCs, CVS for revision control and server for final check out to operations • Need to integrate upload to RDB seamlessly Progress Report on the DIAMOND Light Source to the EPICS Meeting DLS June 03
