  1. Facing for UnfacedBatts

  2. Facing for Unfaced Batts Where will I see applications of Facing for Unfaced Batts, requiring Class A (Flame Spread of 25 or less) ratings? Educational, Retail, Office…other Commercial Buildings; in Plenum Area and wall applications. What is the typical solution provided by Architects? FSK-faced Batts

  3. What is FSK Shield Insulation Facing? Unfaced fiberglass and Fi-Foil’s FSK Shield™ is lower cost and more readily available than FSK-faced Batts FSK stands for Foil Scrim Kraft or aluminum foil bonded to kraft paper with a flame retardant adhesive and reinforced with fiberglass scrim.

  4. When and where is it used? • FSK Shield was tested with R11, R19, and R30 unfaced batts in accordance with ASTM E-84. • Primarily to provide a lower-cost alternative to FSK-faced batts, as well as, meet Class A (Flame Spread of 25 or less) requirements in ceiling and wall applications. • It is also used to insure that unfaced fiberglass batt insulation is fully aligned with the air barrier or drywall. FACING FOR UNFACED BATTS WALL APPLICATION

  5. When you substitute FSK Shield + UnfacedBatts, for FSK-faced Batts… Save MONEY and TIME TOTAL COST SAVINGS = 22%* *Note: Example is based on Retail Pricing for all products.

  6. Can be used as an effective vapor retarder. All seams should be taped with Fi-Foil’s FSK Tape. Another Benefit: VAPOR RETARDER ASTM E-96 Water Vapor Permeance of 0.02 Building Standard in:

  7. Thermal Performance • The Low Emittance High Reflective surface facing an Air Film adds R-value to the insulation system • Ceilings:R- 4.6 • Walls:R- 1.7 • Reference: Surface Conductances and Resistances for Air, ASHRAE FundamentalsHandbook.

  8. Another Solution: PLENUM AREA APPLICATION FSK Shield™ can be installed in the Plenum Areaas FACING FOR UNFACED BATTS or as a facing for Fi-Foil’s Masonry Wall insulation - AA2 Vapor Shield, to achieve a Class A rating. A Plenum Area is often the air return for an air conditioning system. In some buildings, the area above a drop ceiling is used as the air return (source of air) for the air conditioning.
