  1. What it means that, “christ died for us.”Romans 5:1-11

  2. Introduction: • Jesus is real. He was written about by Jewish historians who would have rather just forgotten Him altogether. • His trial and crucifixion were written about by secular historian Tacitus & Flavian Josephus.

  3. Introduction: • The empty tomb is still the single greatest, undeniable evidence of His deity, [Godhood], in existence. • We are not dealing with the death of the average, everyday person. We are talking about the death and resurrection of the only begotten Son of God!

  4. Introduction: • We are not dealing with the death of the average, everyday person. We are talking about the death and resurrection of the only begotten Son of God! • “But Jesus answered them, My Father workethhitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.” John 5:17-18

  5. Introduction: • “I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makestthyself God.” John 10:30-33

  6. Introduction: • “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 16:13-17

  7. Introduction: • Everyone must decide what they will believe about Jesus, and if they will trust in Jesus as their Savior or not.

  8. Introduction: • “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believethin him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16-18

  9. Introduction: • What you believe has consequences. What you believe about Christ has eternal consequences.

  10. We are Remarkably Loved! Vs. 7-8 • When you wonder, does God love me, does anyone love me? Look at the cross. • When you wonder, can anyone love me? Look at the cross. • When you wonder, does God love me enough to understandmy pain? Look at the cross.

  11. We are Hopeless Sinners. vs. 6 & 10 • “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; ... That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:1, 12-13

  12. We are Hopeless Sinners. vs. 6 & 10 • “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:” 1 Peter 3:18 • “...we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:” 2 Corinthians 5:14b • Luke 5:27-32

  13. We are Happily Motivated! Vs. 2 & 11 • “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

  14. We are Happily Motivated! Vs. 2 & 11 • Why do we live for Christ? He died for us. • Why do we sacrifice for Christ? He died for us. • Why do we love Him? He first loved us. (1 John 4:19)

  15. Conclusion: • Be saved today. (“...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”) • Be a soul-winner. (“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”)

  16. Conclusion: • Be a church builder.(“...upon this rock I will build my church...” “...feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.)
