The People. • 3,547 - the maximum capacity of the RMS Titanic when fully loaded with passengers and crew • 2,223 - the total number of people on board (passengers and crew). • 1,324 - the number of passengers on board. • 13 - the number of honeymooning couples on board

The Ship. • 1909 the titanic was started. 1911 it was finished • 882' 9" - her length in feet and inches & 92‘ feet - her breadth • 175' - the height of the Titanic, from the top of the funnels to the keel. • 46,328 - the internal usable volume of the Titanic, in tones • 23 - the top speed of the Titanic, in knots. • 900 - the weight of freight and passengers baggage carried aboard, in tones.
The Accident… • It was 4 days into the trip that the titanic sank. • The ship received 6 ice berg warnings before getting hit. • 22.5 was the speed the ship was traveling in knots, just .5 knots below the top speed of 23 knots. • 30 seconds - the length of time between the first sighting of the iceberg to the impact. • 4 forward compartments could be flooded without sinking the ship, 6 were ruptured in the collision.
The accident… (cont.) • the ship's distance from land 400 miles, when the iceberg was struck. • The temperature of the water was -2°C • When the first distress call was sent out the rescuing vessel Carpathia, was 58 miles away. • The titanic was capable of holding 64 life boats • 20 life boats were actually carried on board.
