  2. Think about the definitions of the three words… “Fraction”- means part of a whole. “Decimal” -means part of a whole. “Percent” - means part of 100. WHAT DO THEY HAVE IN COMMON?

  3. THE ANSWER IS... They can all be written as a fraction. They can all be written as a decimal. They can all be written as a percent. Click to continue and find out how to change FRACTIONS TO PERCENTS.

  4. PERCENTS FRACTIONS Step #1 Set up a proportion. Step #2 Use cross products to solve the proportion. Example: Express 4/5 as a percent. 4 = n 5 100 5 x n = 4 x 100 5 x n = 400 5 5 n = 80 Your answer is 4/5 equals 80%

  5. It’s your turn!!! Express the following fractions as percents. 2. 23 25 1. 17 20 23 = n 25 100 Step #1 17 = n 20 100 Step #2 20 x n = 17 x 100 20 x n = 1700 20 20 n = 85 25 x n = 23 x 100 25 x n = 2300 25 25 n = 92 Your answer is 17/20 equals 85% Your answer is 23/25 equals 92%

  7. PERCENTS FRACTIONS STEP #1 • Write the percent in the numerator. • Write 100 in the denominator. STEP #2 • Write the fraction in simplest form. EXAMPLE: Express 75% as a fraction. 75 % = 75 100 75 divided by 25 = 3 100 divided by 25 4 Your answer is 75 % equals 3/4

  8. It’s your turn!!! Express the following percents as fractions. 1. 15% 2. 84% Step #1 15% = 15 100 84% = 84 100 Step #2 84 divided by 4 = 21 100 divided by 4 25 15 divided by 5 = 3 100 divided by 5 20 Your answer is 15 % equals 3/20 Your answer is 84% equals 21/25

  9. YEAH!!! You can now change PERCENTS TO FRACTIONS!!! • On your own complete the last 7 problems on your worksheet. • Before you continue with the rest of the program, show me your finished work.

  10. DECIMALS PERCENTS STEP #1 Multiply the decimal by 100. “Shortcut” Move the decimal two places to the right. STEP #2 Write the number with the percent symbol. EXAMPLE: Write .12 as a percent. • .12 x 100 = 12 • Notice how the decimal moved two places and is now at the end of the number. Add the % sign. .12 = 12%

  11. It’s your turn!!! Express the following decimals as percents. 1. 1.38 2. .07 Step #1 Don’t forget the shortcut. .07 x 100 = 7 1.38 x 100 = 138 Step #2 .07 = 7% 1.38 = 138%

  13. PERCENTS DECIMALS STEP #1 Divide the percent by 100. “Shortcut” Move the decimal point two places to the left. STEP #2 Omit the % symbol. EXAMPLE: Write 67 % as a decimal. 67 divided by 100 = .67 Notice the decimal moves 2 places to the left. 67% = .67

  14. You are almost done! It’s your turn! Write the following percents as decimals. 1. 73% 2. 879% Step #1 73 divided by 100 = .73 879 % divided by 100 = 8.79 Step #2 73% = .73 879% = 8.79
