CHALLENGE – IN NEED OF SUPPORT • NMBM SEVERELY CHALLENGED WRT ADMINISTATIVE PROCESS IN APPOINTING MPA FUNDED STAFF (2) • DECREASE IN OFF SHORE BOAT PATROLS DUE TO STAFFING CHALLENGE • DIVE BAN NEEDED FOR MPA – FORCED TO USE BY LAWS IE BANNING DIVING FROM SHORE ONLY (NO RECREATION DIVING FROM SHORE OCCURS )

  4. SOLUTIONS / ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT REQUIRED FOR ONGOING CHALLENGES • ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW OF MPA REGULATIONS • LETTER OF SUPPORT TO FAST TRACK FILLING OF VACANCIES (STAFF) FOR MPA

  5. PRIORITIES FOR COMING YEAR • FILLING OF VACANCIES • CAR PARK AND RELATED COMPLETION • UPGRADE OF CAPITAL EQUIP. IF FUNDS PERMIT

  6. WHAT DO WE DO THAT OTHERS DONT • FORCED TO FORM CLOSE WORKING GROUPS WITH NGO’S AND OTHER STATE BODIES IN ORDER TO BE EFFECTIVE IN MANAGEMENT DUE TO SEVERE STAFF SHORTAGES • WE ARE FORCED TO MANAGE THE WHOLE NMBM COASTLINE - EFFECTIVE MANAGENMENT OF THESE AREAS IMPACTS ON MANAGEMENT OF MPA.

MPA ROLES AND OBJECTIVES • OVERALL OBJECTIVES  • MONITORING AND SURVEILLANCE OF THE MARINE PROTECTED AREA • ENFORCEMENT OF THE MARINE LIVING RESOURCES ACT AND THE MUNICIPAL BY- LAWS • PROTECTION OF THE FAUNA AND FLORA WITHIN AND OUT THE RESERVE • CREATING A SAFE AND SECURE ENVIRONMENT ON THE COAST • BUILDING GOOD WORKING RELATIONS WITH NATIONAL, LOCAL AND PROVINCIAL AGENCIES WHO HAVE COMMON INTERESTS IN THE COAST AND ASSOCIATED NATURAL RESOURCES
