  9. College Prep Electives “g” • The UC and CSU systems require one additional year of college prep classes • Government and Econ fulfill this requirement, as do classes such as psychology and sociology, geography, and even your third year of language, third year of science, etc.

  10. Additional Requirements for UC and CSU Admission • Scholarship Requirement • UC - 3.0 minimum • CSU – 2.0 minimum GPA in 10th - 12th grades, a-g courses only • “D” or “F” grade in required classes treated as an omission; therefore you must have a “C” or better in all college prep courses • Examination Requirement • ACT (plus ACT Writing Test) or SAT Reasoning

  12. Additional Requirements • Fitness and Health • Technology Education for the 21st Century at CHS or Computer Survey at El Roble (with a “C” or better) 70 Elective Credits • California High School Exit Exam, both English Language Arts and Math

  13. Highly rigorous with extensive analytical reading and writing Weighted GPA Many colleges grant credit for passing IB/AP scores AP and IB Tests are held in May; students can earn college credit through these tests. International Baccalaureate (IB)Advanced Placement (AP)

IB Diploma Program • IB Diploma is offered to juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a comprehensive educational program to enhance college preparedness. • IB Diploma candidates take a coordinated curriculum across content areas; participate in inquiry based learning; take assessments which require extensive writing; complete an Extended Essay and 150 Hours of Community Service, Creativity and Action (CAS) • The rigorous senior year is highly valued by colleges and universities. IB Diploma graduates report greater readiness for freshman year academic success. • If you are considering IB Diploma, please let your counselor know during your sophomore counseling appointment.

Throughout our region: Cosmetology, Dental Assistant, EMT, Fire Tech, Animal Health Care plus more than 40 other classes to choose from! Earn elective credits and job skills Be ready for more than minimum wage employment when you graduate from CHS!! SIGN UP IN THE COLLEGE/CAREER CENTER

Are you an athlete who hopes to play sports in college? • What you take in high school and the grades that you earn will determine whether or not you will be eligible to play sports at the college level • NCAA Division 1 and 2 Requirements- 16 core classes • Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse during junior year. .

  17. WAIT!! What if I fail something along the way?? • Take a summer school class! • Go to summer school to remediate a D earned in a class needed for college admission.

  18. What are smart options for summer? • CHS Summer School • CEF/Slice Summer Program • Naviance (look for enrichment programs) • Volunteer Hours • Youth Exchange / Travel Programs • Off-campus classes require counselor pre-approval.

  19. Please write down your questions and think about your elective options before you meet with your counselor. Be sure to place your signed and completed course request form in your backpack. When you receive your counselor call slip for “sophomore counseling” please bring the completed and signed course request form with you. Scheduling for Year 14/15
