  1. Song Lyric Analysis • Break into small groups. • Share and analyze each person’s song lyrics. Some things to discuss: • What is the focus of the song? • How are women portrayed in the song? • How are men portrayed in the song? • Do you think the song promotes traditional gender identities? • Do you think the song promotes positive/healthy gender identities?

  2. Empowerment Soundtrack HW • Although music is often criticized for degrading women, there is plenty of music that looks to empower women. • As homework, please select a song that you would like to add to our class’s “empowerment soundtrack”. • It’s preferred that your bring the actual song to class (either on cd, jumpdrive, or mp3 player). If that is not possible, please bring the lyrics. • You must also submit a written explanation for why you selected this song. You’ll share this in class as well.
