  1. No mass extinctions • Very general images • What is with the zigzag? • Has the earth cooling-shows really deep time! • Shows Cambrian Explosion period. • Mentions algae and eukaryotic cells.

  2. Has all groups! Nice sense of how things evolved. Not straight hard to follow. Hard to tell yrs since major periods not noted. Emphasizes diversity and the large number of groups. Lacks specific traits and labeling of specific extinct groups. Good in terms of species progression.

  3. Emphasizes mass extinctions. Eras are clear. Time might be proportional but starts at 250 MYA with what event? (no bacteria or prokaryotes). Not very detailed. Makes it look like there are mostly vertebrates on the earth today. Has a aquatic vs terrestrial perspective!

  4. Does not start at the evolution of life, starts at the appearance of multicellular more “complex life” Gives no sense of connection between lineages (which the second slide does-but few others do). Emphasizes when they first appeared Less emphasis on mass extinctions. Some pictures of organisms is good. Periods and eras clear. Put a break in scale at top to squeeze in humans.

  5. Does start from beginning. Has pictures of organisms. Odd/poor time sense/scale. Gives a sense of how short a time humans have been around. No sense of mass extinctions. Gives impression that evolution of life has been smooth transition from minimal complexity to extreme complexity?

  6. Pictures! Includes many periods and eras. Early start date-nothing missing. Appropriately represents human time on earth. Not proportional. No mass extinctions. Does the spiral work? What is with the mountains? Some good info. Creatures not labeled and only one per period shown

  7. Hard to read but has a picture of earth. Major extinctions not noted, but some groups disappear and some diversify. Gives sense of widening diversity with groups around today on outer edge.

  8. Very simple (good and bad). Timeline proportional-very long precambrian! No pictures. Hard to interpret which direction. Does clock idea work? Not very specific. No mass extinctions indicated. No real sense of diversity increase-well maybe a little bit with colored bands… Emphasizes small amount of time humans have been on earth which is appropriate. Some important early events noted-evolution of eukaryotes etc.. Misrepresents the “rocky road” of evolution and adaptation-seems too smooth.

  9. I didn’t hand this one out! No pictures but ok in some ways?
