Establishment of IPNI • Idea discussed by international fertilizer industry for several years … • Introductory meeting in San Francisco, Sep 2006 • PPI decided to proceed in Oct. 2006 • 1st Board meeting in Buenos Aires, Dec. 2006 • IPNI began operations Jan. 1, 2007 • PPI/PPIC …integrated into IPNI and ceased to exist • 2nd Board meeting scheduled for May 20 in Istanbul

  3. Mission Statement The mission of IPNI is to develop and promote scientific information about the responsible management of plant nutrients for the benefit of the human family.

  4. Membership of IPNI • Basic producers of N, P, K and/or S for agriculture use qualify as Ordinary Members. • Large retail organizations may qualify as Associate Members. • Non-profit associations and other organizations may be eligible as Affiliate Members

  6. New Board of Directors Mr. Patricio Contesse, President and CEO of SQM, was elected Chairman of the IPNI Board

  7. The purpose of IPNI… • To provide a unified, scientific voice for the world’s fertilizer industry; independent of the industry, scientifically credible and recognized by governments, academia, NGOs, the public, and the industry • To help define the basis for appropriate use and management of plant nutrients, especially focusing on the environmental and economic issues related to their use

The purpose of IPNI… • To provide comprehensive and regional information and research results to the industry to help them address environmental and agronomic problems • To provide credible positive information on the appropriate use of fertilizers to offset the growing misinformation against fertilizer use • To provide technical support to members and industry organizations as a resource in their public affairs and promotional activities.

  9. IPNI will … • function as an independent scientific organization working with the worldwide scientific community to generate needed information and widely disseminate that information to those concerned with agricultural impacts. • demonstrate industry’s commitment to addressing environmental and economic challenges in providing optimal plant nutrition to crops to meet global demands for food, feed, fiber, and fuel in sustainable ways.
