  6. GOKTURK ALPHABET • GokturkAlphabetwasthefirstknownTurkishalphabet in thehistory of Turkishnations. ItwascommonlyusedbyTurksbetween 7th and 9th centuries. Because of a superficialresemblancetotheinscriptions, thealphabet is alsoknown as “RunicAlphabet”

  7. GOKTURK ALPHABET Of the 38 charactersgenerallyused, 4 arevowels, 26 areconsonant, and 8 areagglutinatives. It is necessarytoknoworpredictthesewordswhichhaveroundedvowels (o,ö,u,ü).It is writtenfromrighttoleftorupsidetodownside.Thelettersdon’tattachwitheachotherandtheyarealsosuitableforwriting on stonesandobjects. Thisalphabetwasdecipheredby William Thomsen,fromDenmark. TheKultiginMonumentwritten in 732 has beenaccepted as thefirstwrittenwork of TurkishLiterature.

  9. Tonyukukinscription has twoobeliskswithfoursidesand is alsoknown as theoldestworkwritten in GokturkAlphabet.

  10. On thesestones, it is mentionedthathowGokturksescapedfromslavery of Chinese, howtheindependencewaroccuredandwhatTonyukuksucceded. Thefirstinscription is 243cm andthesecondone is 217 height. Inthefirstinscriptionthereare 27 lines in TurkishtextwithGokturkAlphabet

  11. UYGHUR ALPHABET It is themostimportantalphabetusedbyTurks,afterGokturkalphabetandbeforetheArabicAlphabet Fromthe 8th to 18th century, Uyghurwasspoken far andwidefrom East TurkistantoIstanbul. ThisalphabetwasderivedfromSogdianAlphabetwhichwasoriginallayderivedfromtheAramic. It is possiblethatthisalphabetknown as UyghurwasalsospokenbytheotherTurks.

  12. UYGUR ALPHABET One of thethreeworks of KutadguBiligwaswritten in UyghurAlphabet. Of the 18 charactersused, 4 arevowels, 14 areconsonant. As in ArabicAlphabet, thelettersarewritten in a differentway at thebeginning, in themiddleand in theend. Even though Uyghur Alphabet was not appropriate for writing in Turkish, it was used almost 1000 years. Most of the works written in Uyghur Alphabet were the texts of Buddhism, Manichaeism and Christian. This alphabet was also used after adopting Islam.

  14. TARYAT MONUMENT Taryatmonument, whichwas in threepieces,wasfound in Taryatregion. Themonumentconsisting of 29+1 lines is now in theHistoryMuseum in Ulan Batur.

  15. ARABIC ALPHABET Throughouthistory, Arabianalphabetwasthemostcommonlyusedalphabet in thearticlestranslatedtotheTurkishLanguage. ArabianalphabetwasprobablyusedafteradoptingIslam. TherearestillTurkishpeoplewhousethisalphabetnowadays. ThefirstcommunitywhowroteTurkishwiththeArabicalphabetwasKarakhanids. Accordingtothepresent data, thefirsttextwrittenwiththisalphabet is called “Divan-ı Lügati’t Türk”.

  17. DİVANÜ LÜGATİ’T-TÜRK DivanüLügati't-Türk was an ArabicDictionarywrittenbyMahmud al-Kashgaribetween 1072 and 1074. Besidesbeingtheoldestdictionary of TurkishLanguage, it wasthemostextensiveandthemostimportantlanguagepieceaboutthe West AsianTurkish.

  18. CYRILLIC ALPHABET AftertheArabicalphabet, in writingOttomanTurkishand in Turkishlanguageanddialectoutside of Turkey, it wasone of themostcommonlyusedalphabet . Turks,whomwereunderthecontrol of formersovietunion, adoptedthisalphabetby Stalin regimebetween 1937 and 1940. Different alphabets were prepared for each Turk clan. Because of this, 20 cyrillic alphabet was used among the Turks. However, the tendecy towards changing the alphabet increased after the collapse of Soviet Union.

  20. LATIN ALPHABET Afterthealphabet reform madeby Atatürk in 1928, Latin Alphabet is thelastalphabetused in writingTurkey’sTurkish. Of the 29 characters, 21 areconsonantand 8 arevowels. It is writtenfromlefttoright. Thecharacters can be writtenbyattachingeachotheror not. Thecharacters in thisalphabetaredifferentfromtheoriginal Latin Alphabet. Thereare no characterslike "q/Q", "x/X" and "w/W". On theotherhandtherearecharacterslike ı, ö, ü, ğ, ç and ş.
