  11. A central design in a pattern (what could all these stripes symbolize?) Motif

  12. movement of the body that emphasizes an idea or attitude Gesture

  13. Base • The lowest and supporting part of a sculpture

  14. Design & Build a 3D figure • Create your own supernatural being. It should represent YOU somehow. • It DOES NOT have to be human in shape. But if it is, now you have a better idea about proportion. • It can have 2 legs or 7 legs! • Sketch out designs • Wire ‘armature’. Build up with foil, paper and then cover with plaster wrap with a final layer of papiermache • You are responsible for making your figure stand (create a base or make sure it balances!)

  15. the inside support system of a structure Armature

  16. Plaster Wrap • Fabric that has been infused with plaster

  17. a glue mixture that uses newspaper, wheat paste (flour) and water Papier Mache

  18. After it’s built • Embellish and paint your sculptures • Details, textures and painted surfaces are very important and shouldn’t be neglected or rushed through.

  19. Student Samples

  20. Getting your figure to stand will be challenging but there are many ways to do this • Simple balance (more than 2 legs can help!) • Foil/Cardboard • Bring in materials to embellish your figure with • This project will take about 3 weeks to complete.
