    3. 2/18/2012 3 The goals of our Classroom of the Future 1)  Improve K-12 education. 2) Develop a vision of a technology-rich learning environment. 3) Improve student learning, help students perform authentic tasks, and help students learn necessary skills that will prepare them for future careers. 4) Develop proficiency in technology for both educators and students. 5) Integrating acquired technologies and national standards into the curriculum. 6) Include more creative learning styles.

    4. 2/18/2012 4 Making Technology Work Strategic planning; the acknowledgment that technology decisions must be educationally driven and tied to the ultimate goal of enhancing teaching and learning Collaboration between educators and those outside of the schools The vital role of staff development as a key element in the success of any technology project

    5. 2/18/2012 5 Today’s Situation Research in the area of educational technologies generally focuses on the impact technologies can have on children and teachers, as opposed to the impact that children and teachers can have on the development of new technologies. According to the National School Boards Foundation, the most common reason parents cite for buying home computers is their children's education.

    6. 2/18/2012 6 Funding The Michigan Technology Implementation Project (MTIP) provides statewide leadership for improving school technology implementation and integration. The project is divided into four centers, see especially the Center for Capacity Building and Accountability [External Link] http://www.mtip.net/capacity.htm Site also includes status reports and sets of resources that may prove useful for educators working to use technology in their areas.

    7. 2/18/2012 7 Investing in Workstations Investment: workstation classrooms provide one machine per student and more recently with more cost-effective laptop classrooms.

    8. 2/18/2012 8 Lap Tops laptop classrooms in which skills and the process of inquiry were emphasized had the most positive impact on student learning and attitudes http://www.nsta.org/programs/laptop/index.htm
