  2. Before 1990th… Until 1990th Latvia was included in the Soviet Union. Latvia was not independent country. The flag of SovietLatvia

  3. TheBalticWayorBalticChainwas a peacefulpoliticaldemonstrationthatoccurredonAugust 23, 1989. Approximatelytwomillionpeoplejoinedtheirhands to form a humanchainspanningover 600 kilometresacrossthethreeBalticstates – Estonian SSR, Latvian SSR, andLithuanian SSR, republicsoftheSovietUnion. It was first attempt to get free and independent country

  4. May 4, 1990. • The Declaration "On the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia was adopted on 4 May 1990, by the Supreme Soviet of the Latvian SSR.

  5. The Barricades • The Barricades were events that took place between 13 and 27 January 1991 in Latvia. Latvia, which had declared independence from the Soviet Union a year earlier, anticipated that Soviet Union might attempt to violently regain control over the country.
