  3. Mastery or Learning Objectives & SIOP 4 THINKING SKILLS OBJECTIVES What thinking skills do I want students to be able to use? Content Objectives: What knowledge, concepts, and thinking skills are affiliated with my content area? This is derived from the standards. MASTERY OBJECTIVES What do I want students to know and be able to do when the lesson is over? How will I know if they know it or can do it? Language Objectives: What language skills will student need to be able to interact with my content? What will they be doing with their language if they are successful? INVOLVEMENT How can I get students really engaged? ACTIVITIES What activities could students do to gain understanding or to develop these skills?   5. What kind of verbs are used in the learning objectives? • Level 1 or Level 2/3 What level of questions are teachers asking? And What level of questions are students answering?

MASTERY OR LEARNING OBJECTIVE: SWBAT determine the characteristics and events of American slavery by watching a film clip from “Amistad” and taking notes on their film guide, and doing TPS about their notes. • Content Objective: SWBAT describe the characteristics and events of American slavery. • Language Objectives SWBAT take notes on the film “Amistad” with your film guide, and TPS the characteristics/events on your notes with a partner.

MASTERY OR LEARNING OBJECTIVE:SWBAT speculate on the differences between American slavery and the slavery in other countries by comparing their film/TPS notes on “Amistad” to their lecture notes, recording results on double bubble map, and discussing/recording results in groups of four. • Content Objectives: SWBAT compare and contrast the differences between American slavery and slavery in other countries. SWBAT speculate on the causes of the differences. • Language Objectives SWBAT record on a double bubble the differences between American slavery and slavery in other countries from your film/TPS notes SWBAT discuss in your group the differences and record why you think they were different.
