  1. Power Writing For this assignment you will compose one eight sentence powergraph about the main character in Nothing but the Truth. This paragraph will be eight sentences long and use three sentence patterns. One of the sentence patterns must be a compound sentence. Your topic is to discuss what three things Phillip could do to improve his situation.

To begin with, she should talk to the superintendent about her grant. Right now she feels alone, and she is angry the music teacher got the grant. Next, I feel she should call home and talk to Phil’s parents. Wouldn’t Phil’s parents make him try harder in school? Finally, Miss Narwin should talk to Phil. Phil, a budding track star, needs to know his teacher better and stop making excuses. If Miss Narwin did these three things she would feel much more successful.

Peer editShare your paper with someone • Underline the word 3 in the first sentence • Put a box around the transitions in each of your power 2 sentences • Circle any be verbs you see • Are the sentences in the correct order 12323231? Count the number of sentences and write that number at the bottom of the paper. • Find the three sentence patterns that are used. Put triangles around each of the numbers identifying the patterns. • Find the compound sentence and put a bracket around it.
