  2. The Goal • Should BE: • Select a career that “fits” the student’s interests, values, and skills, and is “in demand” • Select an education path that prepares the student for that career • Obtain the required education/training

Consequences of No Career Direction • The average college student switches majors three times • In many colleges, 30-50% of the students do not earn a 4 year degree within 6 years • Today, 57% of U. S. young adults (18-24 years old) live with parents • When several hundred high school students were asked to list as many occupations as possible in 10 minutes, the average list included only 13 different occupations
