  5. First Level Decomposers • Dead organic materials are first eaten by organisms like molds and bacteria • These are known as consumers • Ex.: Earthworms, beetle mites, flies, sow bugs also consume waste directly

  6. Second Level Decomposers • Eat first level consumers • Ex.: springtails, mold mites, protozoa

  7. Third Level Decomposers • Flesh-eaters or predators • Eat 1st and 2nd level consumers • Ex.: centipedes, rove beetles, ants, predatory mites
