  2. PLN 2102 Final Exam • 30% of the final grade • No books, notes or electronic devices allowed. • Duration: 3 hours. • Grade distribution: Question 1 – 5% Question 2 – 5% Question 3 – 20%

  3. PLN 2102 Final Exam. Section 1 • Identify the still (name the title of the film and the director) and comment on it and the scene it is taken from in at least two paragraphs. (5%) EXAMPLE 

  4. PLN 2102 Final Exam. Section 2 II. Identify briefly ANY FIVE of the following dates, concepts or individuals (as they relate to Polish history and/or film). (5%) For this section, revise only the material that was covered after the midterm.

  5. PLN 2102 Final Exam. Section 3 III. Provide extensive and detailed responses to any TWO of the following topics (in at least four paragraphs each). (20%) There will be a choice between only three questions on the actual examination sheet. Be specific; use concrete examples; analyze details; avoid repetitions.

Section 3 • Discuss the theme of self-sacrifice in A Year of the Quiet Sun and The Interrogation. • Elucidate the representation of women in Polish cinema (analyze at least two films). • Compare the depictions of state justice in The Interrogation and Decalogue 5. • Discuss the meaning of intertextual connections between a Polish film and another work(s) of art (any relevant movies, books, paintings, etc.) 

  7. PLN 2102 Final Exam. Section 3 • Analyze the symbolism of colour and chiaroscuro in Decalogue 6. 6. Examine character transformations in any two films from the course list. 7. Explain the role of history in Polish cinema using at least two films as specific examples. 8. Elaborate on the topic of moral choices and their consequences in the “cinema of moral concern.”
