Either: (a) An individual who shall have received a three-to-five year university-level or higher degree (i) from an accredited institution or program and (ii) in an IEEE-designated field (b) An individual who shall have received a three-to-five year university-level or higher degree from an accredited institution or program and who has at least three years of professional work experience engaged in teaching, creating, developing, practicing or managing in IEEE-designated fields (c) An individual who, through at least six years of professional work experience, has demonstrated competence in teaching, creating, developing, practicing or managing within IEEE-designated fields Web Cast Etiquette: Ask questions using the online chat feature. Membership Development Web Cast Slide 10 Upgrade To Member • A candidate must be regularly employed in IEEE-designated fields with a combination of education and work experience for at least six years and has demonstrated competence in work of a professional character • The designated fields are: Engineering, Computer sciences and information technology, Physical sciences, Biological and medical sciences, Mathematics, Technical communications, education, management, law and policy • Educational experience is credited as follows: three years for a baccalaureate degree in an IEEE-designated field; four years if you hold a baccalaureate and masters degree; and five years if you hold a doctorate Web Cast Etiquette: Ask questions using the online chat feature.   11. Membership Development Web Cast Slide 11 Upgrade To Member • Case 1. An applicant/nominee has no degree and has worked for many years in the electric industry as a technician. Six years ago, he/she accepted an engineering level position and has continued with it since that time. Result: Approved • Case 2. An applicant/nominee has one or more degrees that are not in an IEEE-designated field but has worked for the past six years of professional character in an IEEE-designated field. Result: Approved • Case 3. An applicant/nominee is an executive who, for at least six years, has had under his/her direction important technical, engineering, or research work in IEEE-designated fields. Membership Development Web Cast Slide 39 Update: Upgraded Methodology for Calculating Retention … “Unique-Matching” of Membership Records Unique-matching compares unique member records at the beginning and conclusion of the membership year, 16 August through 15 August. Impact: The unique-matching methodology will not materially impact long-term trending for total membership retention rates.  One-year, downward correction in the higher-grade retention rate (in total, by about 1.0%); correction accounts for the August student elevations now being included in the higher-grade renewal opportunity for the subsequent membership year.  One-year, upward correction in the total student retention rate.  Corrections will fluctuate among IEEE’s Regions; influenced by the proportion of student members (and their August ‘09 elevations) to the total membership of each Region.
