Controlling Glycolysis • When cell is using ATP rapidly—glycolysis speeds up. The opposite is also true. • A major regulatory factor is the allosteric enzyme phosphofructokinase that is responsible for making fructose 1,6-biphosphate. • phosphofructokinase is inhibited by high concentrations of ATP and activated by high concentrations of ADP (both can fit the allosteric site)
