Action Plan The current action plan has taken two areas to focus on • To narrow the gap in educational attainment which is a common performance priority for all of the authorities and is the externally facing objective. • To build capacity by the development of the workforce in Children`s Services . This is the inward facing objective and an enabling factor for change

  6. 2008/09 was the first year of a bid - the aim was to create a sub regional infrastructure for this work • Narrowing the Gap is one of the MIEP workstreams • There are regular highlight reports and also the budget is monitored quarterly • An overall MIEP Board meets regularly • A new Innovations Bank has been set up A Year 2 submission has now been accepted and is based around delivering joint training and creating networks that build capacity and develop knowledge or research that narrow the gaps in terms of deprivation ,health inequalities ,education, life chances and achievement

  7. 1:Gathering Intelligence • Where are the gaps ? • Why is the gap there ? • What is the data telling us ? Decision to concentrate in the first year on education • % of schools not hitting GCSE floor targets • Impact of deprivation on 5 A*- C GCSE with English and Maths • % of students at 19 not reaching a level 3 qualification • % of students making good progress in any key stage ( 2 levels )

NTG Central Projects • Data analyst appointment - developing a schools database • Data protocols agreed • Refresh child poverty training • Governors training booklet - use of performance data • Analysis of % of students reaching a level 3 qualification at 19 across sub region • Research on the impact of deprivation

NTG Local Authority Projects • Support for Children in Care group • Support for BME cohort • Turning the Curve Toolkit training and use • Maths Recovery Scheme - key stage 2 • Foundation and Key stage 1audit : Quality Assurance Framework for all settings • C/D GCSE borderline strategies to improve English and Maths results • Target FSM cohort GCSE results in one school ( not in National Challenge )

Children’s Workforce Development • Masters programme - 2 years University of Chester • Postgraduate - 1 year University of Chester • Practioners Course - 12 weeks local delivery through LJMU • Action Learning Sets training - University of Chester • Progression pilot course - 2 Colleges of FE • The Masterclass programme - a minimum of 9 per year
