  1. Alternative Energy = Renewable/Inexhaustible Energy Alternative to what? Coal Oil - Petroleum Natural Gas

  2. Renewable - we CAN REPLACE the resource (trees, leaves, food waste, manure.)They typically have a cycle.

  3. Inexhaustible – will NOT run out (wind, sun, moving water)

  4. Wind Energy • Energy is created when the wind turns the giant turbines. • Only generates power when the wind is blowing.

  5. Solar Energy Solar = Sun • The suns energy is captured by the panels and converted into useable energy.

  6. Hydroelectric Energy Hydro = Water • The energy of moving water is converted into usable energy. • Electricity is constantly generated.

  7. Geothermal • Geo = Earth • Thermal = Heat

  8. Biomass Energy • Bio = Life • Mass = Matter • Biomass Energy = plant and animal WASTE is used to produce biofuels (methanol, natural gas, oil).

  9. Bioconversion • Is the change of ORGANIC materials (plant or animal waste) into useable products or energy sources.
