  1. TGC Big wheel Sector assembly plan 12.23.2004 Tatsuo Kawamoto ATLAS workshop 2005

  2. Some history • 2003 Autumn : 1/24 full size frame in b188 • trial of cable installation • finalize cable length • Feb 2004 : Idea of sector assembly tooling • March 2004 : Chamber mounting tool • test operation at CERN • Summer 2004: Realistic installation of cables on the 1/1 model. • documentation • Trial of T7, etc handling at CERN(need further study • Oct. 2004: Signal cable preparation at CERN

  3. Taking into account considerations and constraints due to - availability of space as a function of time - delivery of major components (planned, possible) - installation at the pit - assumed assembly speed of 1 sector/2 weeks/site neglecting for the moment worries like - we don’t know yet the detail of TGC2/3 services assembly (we have better idea about TGC1: full size mock-up) and assuming we still have reasonable time to learn - with TGC-1A

  4. The schedule might look like 2004 2005 2006 Part of 180 Full 180 1 6 6 6 6 6 6 site-1 6 5 6 6 6 6 site-2 1-A 1-C 1-A 2-C 3-C 2-A 3-A Beam pipe closure spokes BW side C? BW side A? rim transv.bar Wedge test? Bracket 1-C/A tilt table H-table A-frame, V-stand storage

  5. 2nd site (somewhere) 1st site Assembly + storage b180 Surface assembly site

  6. Horizontal + tilt storage Vertical

  7. In order that it somehow works The 1st sector TGC1-A • Space of the 1st site available (EC cal must move a bit) • Major components are/will-be there in January 2005 • Tooling should arrive as planned • Status : 1 tilt table mid. January • H-table mid. Feb or later • A-frame, V-stand early March (to decide how many) • 2nd tilt table early March • TGC mounting tool (adapter for all chamber types): will come • Cables,PS-pack,tubes,DCS equipments • Test equipments: gas, electronics • Man power : many things to do from January • for the detector group, be ready in particular • in February/March to establish many things.

  8. In order that it somehow works TGC1-C + 1-A series production • Space for the 2nd site from April • Components have to be delivered in time • Status :complicated, but it should work • Bracket : Need • 1/2 of 1-C by mid March, • 1/2 of 1-C by mid April, • the rest (1-A + tooling) by end June • Status : price inquiery launched. Need conscious effort. • Storage: space and tooling • Status : storage tooling 3-d desgin made, gave go-ahead • 10 more PS packs, and then 20 more PS packs by April • DCS sensors, cables

  9. In order that it somehow works TGC2/3 series production • Components have to be delivered in time • Status :Design not completely finished • Strategy for contract • Services • Status :Design not finished Ideally, better start assembly as soon as 1-C are finished June/July 2005. But, unlikely to have all above be ready by then. Therefore 1-A is inserted after 1-C assembly. Nevertheless, fall 2005 is not very far !!

  10. A few things which are not very clear. would like to learn with the 1st sector. need preparation/consideration by then. • Assembly procedure in general • Access to height: what kind of tools are needed • Test procedure • Gas : perhaps, fairly clear? • Readout : starting to play with 5-10 PS-packs • be prepared to 2 independent test set-ups ? • (2 sites working in parallel)

  11. Chamber installation • max height to reach is ~7m (TGC-1, bracket T9) • max height difference to access at a time is ~2 m (T9) • max horizontal distance to access at a time is ~2.5m (T3/T6) • height varies as a function of horizontal position Not obvious what kind of lifting device is optimum Scaffold, scissors lift, cherry picker just one, or combination of two?

  12. The Storage tooling stabilizer bar Wall of concrete blocks wall 5.1m 4.3m 1m Random access is not foreseen : order of assembly is important

  13. With this pitch, the total width of storage for 6 sectors is ~ 12 m 5.1m We will need access to Install PS packs Scaffold, scissors lift ? 4.3m Height of PS-pack is ~5.7m 75cm Space is 75-100cm (depending on installation) 100cm

  14. Preparation of TGC-1 surface assembly is in progress • To watch TGC-2/3 • very little or no margin in space-time Schedule of near Future • mid Jan: TV conf with Israel (Meir, Erez, Ishino, TK, ….) • End Jan: Chamber handling week (+Ochi, Tanaka, Ishino,…) • End Jan.-beg.Feb : b180 preparation week (Meir, Erez, MI, TK, .. • Mid Feb.: 3 technicians from Israel at CERN (+ Meir for a few week Man power 4 technicians ( payed by Japan) + 4 technicians ( payed by TCn) + physicists (to plan)

  15. Future is not that far
