  1. Monday September 19 Classwork: #39 and #40 Reaction In a Bag Lab Homework: Complete Conclusion and Analysis #39 & #40 Science Van Tomorrow! Test: Physical and Chemical Changes next Friday Sept 23 Warm UP Which of the following is an example of a chemical change? a. water evaporating b. carbon joining with oxygen to form carbon dioxide c. ice cream melting d. salt dissolving in water to form a solution

  2. #39 Reaction In A BAG!!! Purpose: To observe and record various signs of a chemical reaction taking place Materials: • Bromythmol Blue • Sodium Bicarbonate • Calcium Chloride (CaCl) • Zip Lock Bags • Plastic Spoons • Eye Dropper • SAFETY GOGGLES Hypothesis: What kind of reactions do you expect to see when we combine the materials listed above. “If I combine the materials then……..”

  3. Observations: Procedure: • Describe the physical properties of each substance in the chart below, you will need to do the final product after you finish the procedure • Using your finger, raise the middle of the bottom of the bag so you have two separate corners • Place 1 level spoonful of Sodium Bicarbonate in one corner • Place 2 level spoonful of Calcium Chloride in the same corner • Add 3 eyedroppers full of Bromythmol blue in the OTHER corner DO NOT MIX • Squeeze the air out of the bag, DON’T MIX CHEMICALS. Zip it closed • Spill the Bromythmol Blue into the powders • Record everything you see in the observation table

  4. Analysis and ConclusionWrite a QuAnswer! • Was your hypothesis correct, if not explain what you saw. 2. What happened when you mixed the sodium bicarbonate and the calcium chloride? 3. What happened when the Bromythmol Blue came in contact with the powders? 4. What evidence of a chemical reaction did you observe?
