  1. Summer SinsDo You Worship the Sun or the Son?

  2. Summer Time • This time of the year brings three things: hot weather, vacation time, spare time • This time of the year can also promote three sins: immodest dress, Godless vacations, idleness • As a Christian, will you be a sun worshipper or a Son worshipper? Will you have fun in the sun, or faith in the Son (Gal. 2:20) • God made the sun (Gen. 1:14-19) and summertime (Gen. 8:22), but the Devil tempts us to misuse them

  3. Summer Time: How Will I Dress? • A Christian must still dress modestly even though it is hot outside (1 Tim. 2:9-10; 1 Pet. 3:3-4) • Thought questions: Glorifying God (Mt. 5:16)? Providing for the flesh (Rom. 13:14)? Thinking pure thoughts (Phil. 4:8)? Fleeing lusts (2 Tim. 2:22)? Imitating evil (3 Jn. 11)? Luring others (Prov. 7:10)? • Answering objections: Everyone wears it (Rom. 12:1); I can’t control others (Mt. 5:28; 18:6-7); They are just kids (Eph. 6:4); I wear it for comfort (Mt. 16:26)

  4. Summer Time: Where Will I Go? • Vacation time is good (Mk. 6:30-32), but some Christians take a vacation from God • Some will not assemble with faithful brethren while on vacation (Acts 20:7; Heb. 10:25) • Some will not contribute (Mal. 3:8-10) • Do you stop making these payments in the summer: mortgage, car, insurance, utilities?

  5. Summer Time: What Will I Do? • Some spend their summer time in idleness (2 Thess. 3:11; 1 Tim. 5:13; 1 Pet. 4:15) • “Busybody” comes from periergazomai meaning to “work around in other people’s matters”; “Meddler” comes from allotrioepiskopos meaning “to oversee another’s business” • Christians need to spend their time wisely (Eph. 5:15-16)

  6. Summer Sins • Christianity is not seasonal • Summer has been called the “next-to-nothing-season… • Wear next-to-nothing (immodest apparel) • Give next-to-nothing (Godless vacations) • Do next-to-nothing (idleness, laziness)

  7. Summer Sins • Christianity does not change based upon location (alcohol in the north, gambling in the west, tobacco in the east, immodesty in the south) • Christianity is daily serving the Lord (Lk. 9:23) • Christian, be careful how you dress, be careful where you go, be care what you do (Heb. 11:25) • God remains faithful to us during the summer, let’s remain faithful to him at the same time (2 Tim. 2:13)
