Having experienced working in emergency prone communities and with the poverty stricken villages around Kenya and in the United States, Makenna and I (Dickens) thought of what could be a possible solution to poverty in Kenya. In July 2011, Makenna travelled to Africa for the first time from Macon, Georgia, USA to Kenya for a meeting with Dickens after several months of online meetings and discussions. We talked over several options for a period of one month, we traveled to several communities, and we interviewed several households; People living with HIV and those who are not, the youth, women and children too as we shared experiences, responses, ideas and possible solutions.

4. What is behind the Name Bridge Beyond? The Goal of the company is to go beyond bridging poverty and social gap to achieve a sustainable and self reliable community. The company is destined to go beyond the circle of problems and continue to expand its services in Kenya. • Bridge Beyond is one unique Company just like Grameen Bank in Bangladesh or Grameen America.

5. In August 2012, we started a chicken project with a group of 30 Women living with HIV & AIDS in Muhuru-Bay at a cost of 37,000 KES. Two and a half months down the line, this project was able to raise 3/4 of the initial investment and by the end of four months it will be able to have raised back all the capital investment plus interests. In September/October 2012 we started up a Girls focus group in Winjo Secondary School to be able learn from the Girls, know the challenges they face at home, in school, community, and challenges which hinders their pursuit for better education. Our goal for the focus group was to find solutions with them. We have reached a conclusion of starting up a sustainable Greenhouse for the school and we are looking for funds to help us start this amazing project. Back in December 2011 and around April/May 2012 we did a market research for a business that would employ many women living with HIV/AIDS who are commercial sex workers along the Lake region. Our goal was to find the causes of sex working along the Lake and what could be the possible solutions to reduce the spread of HIV & AIDS New infections. After analyzing the data from our market research, we developed a proposal for the soap project and we are currently looking for a willing partner/donor to help us launch this initiative in Muhuru-Bay, Kenya.

6. That’s who we are; legally registered Company that pays its taxes to the Government as is required by the Law of Kenya. We are taking no shortcuts into business and instead; we discuss, research, analyze, share, we draw, make, accept, endorse, discount, execute, we develop, construct, alter, maintain, enlarge, pull down, remove or replace solutions and hit the ground running.  Bridge Beyond is no exception. We have cross-cultural experiences of working in two different continents United States & Africa: Economically, Socially and constitutionally different. Experiences from different organizations ranging from Charity organizations to full profit making institutions.

MISSION To lead by demonstrating ideas that works as practical guide to those who want to venture in the social business with the social objective. Go beyond bridging poverty and social gap to achieve a sustainable and self reliable community.

We know there are millions of Companies around the World with legal registration just like us and they are offering amazing services and products, paying taxes and providing employments. We Unique; we are not profit making Company and we are not charity organization either, we are different with non-profit or not for profit organizations , we are not social entrepreneurs or Social enterprise and not Cooperative society either. That is what makes us Unique. Bridge Beyond is a Social Business Company - non-loss, non-dividend with social objective. Focused at solving social problems facing many communities around Kenya through market research based business solutions and programs aimed at self sustainability.

Why Social Business? • Because we can make profit as any other business but condition is thatall the profit stays with the company and is used to expand the social benefits the company provides. • Because we use homegrown ideas and we don’t import, we learn from the affected people just as we learn from others and create possible solutions with them together as it favors the environment of the business. • Because Charity is not sustainable of running an organization and it encourages dependent on poor people and does not encourage people to stand alone. Charity is meant for Humanitarian crisis. • Because NGO’s can withdraw, funding can end, Country policy can change but problems will never end unless we stop depending and start standing on our own.

10. Our Services? We Provide Consultancy services for Non Governmental Organizations in rural off grade communities and build mobile phone applications that aid in management of client data for field operations. We facilitate travelling and to provide tourists and travelers with conveniences of all kinds, Manufacturing of beauty products and soap detergents, selling and distributing software data for Limited Companies and Non Governmental Organizations. We sell, lease, mortgage, or in exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any movable or immovable property and any rights or privileges which the company may think necessary or convenient for the purposes of its business Develop, manage, extend, establish and acquire, industrial, commercial or agricultural enterprises in all its fields and in particular workshops in all branches of work and industry whether alone or enter into partnership or into arrangement for sharing profits in East Africa or overseas.

11. Why should you trade with us? All our profits are used to solve social problems in Kenya and to expand our business around Kenya and to pay staffs good wages as it is in the market, create job opportunities for people living with HIV/AIDS and young people. We are providing attachment opportunities to college students within and outside Kenya. Create replacement jobs for women working in the fishing industry by providing them with safe working environment and promote gender equity in areas where we work. Helping Secondary schools start up greenhouse projects to be able to grow enough food for the schools and to generate income and help pay the partial school fees for the girls.
