Who is the Federation? • Grassroots organization to support the farmers market industry in New York • Membership based • Funded through grants and contracts • Minor level of membership dues and donations • Focus is on market management, farmers and consumers The mission of the Federation is to support and promote the viability of farmers markets through innovative services, programs and partnerships that maximize the benefits of markets to sellers, buyers and communities. http://www.nyfarmersmarket.com

Requirements to be a Chapter • Network must include no less than 5 independent markets • One seat on the board must be a Federation board member • Organization fiscal calendar must match Federation – July 1 through June 30 • Quarterly activity reports to the Federation board • May be other legal requirements based on the Group Exemption set by IRS http://www.nyfarmersmarket.com

Market managers, farmers, sponsors, customers, community organizers? And why? • Create standards/guidelines for network participation?
