  2. Location • Roman Forum, Regione VIII • located on the corners of the Argiletum and Sacra Via • stood in between the curia and the temple of Faustina

  3. Origin • originally built in 5th century BCE as butcher shops (tabernae lanienae) • erected in 179 BCE by Marcus Fulvius Nobilior • after death, completed by Marcus Aemilius Lepidus • originally named Basilica Fulvia • renamed after the Aemilian gens

  4. Importance • used as a place of business • Roman businessmen held political meetings and community gatherings • place of pride for builders • walls depicted early Roman legends
