  3. China’s Land and Economy • China official name – People’s Republic of China • Has the world’s largest plateau • Plateau of Tibet – “Roof of the World” • 14,800 feet above sea level • Pandas and golden monkeys

  4. China • In some places, temperatures can reach 122 degrees Fahrenheit • Gobi Desert – made of rocks and stones instead of sand

  5. China • The Yellow River is called “China’s Sorrow” because of flooding

  6. China • Along the Ring of Fire – areas of a lot of earthquakes and volcanoes

  7. China • Communist state since 1949 – government has strong control over the economy and society • Government decides: • What crops can be grown • What products to make • What prices to charge
