  1. 68. METAPHOR & SIMILEA Metaphor is a comparison of two unlike things to make an object become more vivid and special. A Simile is a similar comparison using ‘Like’ or ‘As.’ “The Good-Morrow” by John Donne

  2. Metaphors and Similes are important because they are figurative, this means they describe something in a very non-literal and imaginative way, but also being very concise. The winter wind is a howling wolf at the door. He runs fast as a cheetah.

  3. In the previous presentation, we studied Figurative Language: Synonym, Antonym, and Homonym. Quickly review these by reading the following poem.

  5. Poetry is Metaphor & Simile Let’s look at these two useful techniques in different poem examples. Can you find the Metaphors and Similes?

  8. One of the most famous examples of a simile poem is: My Love for you is like a Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns.

  9. One of the most famous examples of a metaphor poem is Robert Frost’s, The Road Not Taken. In this poem, there are no direct metaphor comparisons, rather the entire poem serves as a metaphor for making adventurous and confident life choices and never feeling regret.
