Factors Accountable for Growing Demand for Residential Rooftop Solar in India

India has set an ambitious target of 100GW solar energy by the year 2022. Rooftop solar is finally becoming a reliable source of energy for industries, offices, and homes across the country. The growing popularity of residential rooftop solar tender within the Indian power sector is also a result of the increasing share of renewable or green energy in the country.

  2. Solar energy, which is a renewable source of energy, is easily available and has the potential to be highly beneficial to a country like India which is in an ideal geographical location with adequate sunlight. Even though the initial cost for solar is high, this clean energy has been found out to be less expensive in the long run with operational costs like electricity bills coming down. WWW.SUPRABHA.ORG

  3. Two factors are helping faster adoption of solar power in India. •First, the cost of solar power has been falling sharply over the last couple of years. •The second and more important reason is the changing consumer behavior that is increasingly moving towards cleaner sources of energy. New and younger consumers today expect utilities and other similar service providers to raise the standards not just in terms of price but also their sustainability from an environment point of view. 4. Today, when we have various sources of renewable energy, solar rooftops offer not only an economical and clean alternative to traditional energy sources but also delivers reliability i.e., that independence from grid- based energy sources that are prone to load- shedding and other hindrances to a consistent quality of service. A solar rooftop that is looped back into the grid also helps consumers turn into micro-generators of power and lower the monthly energy bill consistently. WWW.SUPRABHA.ORG

  5. Despite its low cost and environmental benefits, the adoption of rooftop solar has not been satisfactory in India. There are two main reasons for this: •One the lack of adequate knowledge about the benefits of rooftop solar • Second the initial cost of installation Due to the changing dynamics of media and social media playing a major role in changing consumer behavior, the first challenge is already being addressed effectively, though at a slower pace than it is supposed to be. However, the original cost of rooftop solar for the end consumer is still not within the reach of a larger section of the country. WWW.SUPRABHA.ORG
