  1. KEY CHALLENGES IN INDIA FOR ROOFTOP PV PROJECTS Nexus Energytech Pvt. Ltd. Arvind Karandikar 9011061710 arvind@nexusenergy.in

  2. Types of Challenges

  3. Stakeholders in rooftop grid connect projects

  4. Development challenges • Awareness of all stakeholders • Utility worry about losing well-paying customers • Uncertain policies and changing scenario • Process and documentation for project development in various models • Financial closure – project financing • Identification of roof owners • Identification of suppliers, EPC, O&M

  5. Management challenges – 25 years?? • Grid availability and quality – LV level • Financial strength of utilities or private clients • Payment security mechanism • Changes to roofs, locations – own and neighbors • Service manpower and spares • Re-validation of different agreements • Changes in consumer loads in net metering • Emergency backup supply for buildings

  6. Technology challenges • Grid tied inverters – certifications and standards • Roof fixing techniques and availability • Protection features • Regular calibration of various equipment • Timely replacement of components • Recycling methods and setups for material

  7. Few Specifics – Net Metering • Regulations are yet in draft stage • Each SERC has to have own regulation for the state – requires time • Currently net metering attractive only for high tariff consumers – needs additional incentives • State-wise different connectivity specifications • Low voltage grid strengthening necessary at many places

  8. Few Specifics – Gross metering • Utilities unwilling / unable to provide FIT due to possibility of further reducing costs of solar energy • Private customers (for third party sale) unwilling to have long term PPA • Charges of transmission, wheeling, distribution and CSS are high, making solar energy more expensive
